The Universal Postal Union wants to help African countries for the development of electronic commerce

Some people in Africa don't have a mailbox, some don't have a physical address, but are still likely to have a smartphone. And for those who want to do e-commerce, the post office can be useful. This is what the Universal Postal Union (UPU) believes and asserts.

E-commerce and postal services were highlighted during a press conference on January 5, 2022 at the Universal Postal Union. The event consisted of a changing of the guard when the new Director General Masahiko Metoki showed up at the UPU headquarters in Bern, the Swiss capital.

He believes that African countries can use the expertise of the UPU to improve postal services so that they can adopt e-commerce. “We have a chance to speak directly to developing countries and their governments and offer them direct opportunities. The station will become a solution for transporting medicines using its extensive infrastructure ,” Metoki said.
