Michael is the son of immigrants from Peru and Bolivia. When he was a child, while playing video games, he began to search for information to learn how to change those "little games" that he liked so much. When he was only 17 years old, Facebook hired him and today, at 25, he publishes a book and tells what the keys to his meteoric growth are for him.

At just 17 years old, Michael Sayman was Facebook's youngest engineer thanks to his ability to develop applications. The young man had started creating applications when he was just 13 years old and today, who is 25 years old, he is the senior product manager of the global video game giant Roblox.

Michael is the son of immigrants who faced financial problems, just at the time when he began to show interest and talent with technology

From a young age, he showed a passion for video games, something that was the starting point of his success story at such an early age. At 23, the young man was included in Forbes magazine's 2019 list of the most successful under 30s .

"I was so fascinated by (video games) that I wanted to modify them, find a way for the game to work my way, and to do so I used the internet to see how I could transform them into what I wanted, " Sayman says in an interview with Univision Noticias .

But soon after, the young man understood that what he was doing with video games was actually a programming exercise with which he was not only modifying but also creating his own games , which would define his professional path.

Talent, luck and the 'American dream' at 17
Michel released a book this year, edited by Penguin Random House. It's called "Children of the apps: how a child of immigrants took a piece of the American dream" , and he recounts his meteoric rise in the world of technology and an inspiring story of achievement.

She says that her parents, she Peruvian and he Bolivian, immigrated to the United States and settled in Miami, Florida. They had a restaurant business that collapsed in the wake of the Great Recession of 2008.

He also details in his book that his family lost the house in which they lived . In those tough economic times, in the span of a year, he says, he launched an iPhone app that raised thousands of dollars a month, "enough to keep his family afloat."

As a child, he created Club Penguin, an online game involving multiple players who perform various activities in a virtual world.

Then the programmer released the successful 4 Snaps , his online multiplayer development for smartphones consisting of pictures and riddles.

And then Zuckerberg 'appears'
The young man tells in the book that “he wanted to create a multiplayer game in which the first one sent four photos to a friend and he had to guess the word he was thinking of”.

"For example, if someone sent you pictures of French fries, nachos, chicken wings, and cookies, you'd have to guess the word munchies . Hopefully, people would get hooked on the game and keep playing with new words, sending more photos between them, "he describes in the text. This is how 4 Snaps was born.

Michael recalls that in those days just received an email in which you communicated that Facebook CEO wanted to meet.

The appearance in his life of the founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg , says Michael, was "incredible" and unexpected, since he was only 16 years old when he paid attention to him.

"I was creating a couple of video games that had a few million users and downloads, and this made Zuckerberg realize what I was creating," he says.

A teenager in adult Silicon Valley

He spent four years working in Silicon Valley (from 17 to 21 years old) where he says he had good times and bad times, many related to the young age at which he entered the world of high-level technology.

"I was 16 when I started talking with them and they hired me at 17 (...) It's a complicated world (although) the best of all is that I had many people who helped me grow," he acknowledges.

'Micky' - as his family calls him - says it was very difficult to get used to the pace of life in Silicon Valley when he was so young, especially since he was surrounded by a world of adults.

“Living there alone, with people older than me and not knowing how to handle things (as adults) was very difficult, " he says. "Creating friendships too because they were all of legal age, (they were) 15 years older than me. . I was surrounded by people who could be my parents, "he says in a video call interview.

"Millionaire"
Once he started his work adventure on Facebook, his parents stayed in Miami with his sister Mariana, who is a year younger than him.

The money he began to earn was a complex issue to manage, since although he earned more than any average person his age, that was not the problem, but in his family saving was a practically unknown word, as he acknowledges in a passage of his book.

“I don't ask my parents for money , it's the other way around here,” he confesses with a laugh, and points out that he always paid for his things and helps with family bills.

"When I got to be 19 or 20 years old, my account was a millionaire, " reveals Michael, who does not offer an approximate figure of what his salary was in those days.

His recipe? "I am not a genius"
On his experience in Silicon Valley, Michel reflects on the fact that sometimes the issue of his age made many doubt his abilities, but he managed to overcome it.

"Everyone is always going to have things to think about one or my abilities because of the age I was, but if one can put in the effort and show what they know how to do, things happen and people realize the value that your job can have. "

You know that many people worry that things are not going the way they want or that they feel that they are not doing well.

"I tell them to realize that I have nothing special or different from others that makes me unable to create what others do. I am simply a boy who loves to create little games and play them, and that's it," he values.

Disprove that 'myth' that he is a 'genius'. "I am not a genius , more than anything it is the effort and things come out with this. If you have fun while doing things and in the learning process, the path is what will give you happiness no matter what it is", judgment.
